Ponies For Sale
updated 2/1/09
Our purebred and crossbred Highland ponies carry the prefix Ceol Beag. Pronounced "kayol beg", this is a Gaelic phrase familiar to bagpipers and afficionados of pipe music. Ceol Beag translates as little music, or light music, and refers to dance tunes, marches, jigs, and hornpipes. Although we also love Ceol Mor (the great music or pibroch), to us Ceol Beag is an apt metaphor for the ponies. Highland pipes and Highland ponies, a perfect combination!
We make every effort to match our ponies with the right homes. To see ponies we have sold scroll down to the bottom of this page. Our top priority is that both the ponies and their new owners will be happy. Vet exams welcome. We can help arrange pony transportation to any location. Credit card payments accepted through Paypal.
About our prices for purebred Highland ponies
highland pony stallion
Quartz of Croila, sire of our youngstock for sale
Reserve Champion Mountain and Moorland at the 2006 West Coast Welsh Show
Although this breed is still very rare in the U.S. (currently fewer than 80 to the best of our knowledge) we are making an effort to keep our youngstock prices affordable. Our foal prices are generally comparable to Welsh Cobs, and typically lower than the similar rare breeds like Fell and Dales.

A recent price check on importing from the U.K. brought quotes of $5500 to $10,000 for youngstock and mares, considerably more for stallions. These figures are for the import costs only, and do not include the purchase price of a pony. Prices in the U.K. for good Highland ponies can be substantial, especially with currency exchange rates not favorable to the U.S. dollar.

Our ponies are quality stock from excellent U.K. bloodlines, and they are already here in the U.S. without the import hassle. Because we want our foals to have good homes awaiting them once weaned, we offer discounted prices for in utero and nursing foal purchases. In utero: $3500. Nursing foal: $4500. After weaning, purebreds are priced from $5500 and up according to age, gender, conformation etc. Trained ponies are priced considerably higher.

If you don't see the perfect pony listed here, let us know what you are looking for. We often hear about other purebred and partbred Highlands for sale and can put you in touch with the owners.

Ceol Beag Taransay

A full brother to Lismore (scroll down the page to the "sold" section to see Lismore), born February 1, 2006. A very handsome purebred colt. He is still dark grullo like Quartz as a 3 year old and is greying very slowly. He is maturing nicely, has tons of presence, and is the spitting image of his sire!

Dam Circle H Shuna is a lovely mare with classic Highland pony type; excellent bone and substance and the famous kind and quiet Highland disposition. Shuna is 13.2 Hands tall. Sire Quartz of Croila is an excellent example of the breed, consistently stamping his get with Highland looks and temperament. Quartz is 14 Hands tall.

Taransay is ground driving and longeing well in tack; walk, trot, and canter. He will be started under saddle in 2009. Offered for sale to approved home, additional training can be included if desired. Taransay is eligible for stallion licensing with the UK Highland pony society, or would make a superb performance gelding. Please inquire for current price.

Ceol Beag Harris
Born 11/4/02. Harris is a very friendly and outgoing young gelding, 6 years old in 2008. He has the striking Highland looks from his dad, yet is more refined and slender than a purebred. He is an eye-catching yellow dun with a very pretty head like his full sister Staffa. (Scroll down the page to see Harris' dam Skye and sisters Staffa and Tiree.)

Very cute and sociable fellow with the mellow Highland pony disposition. Started under saddle as a 2 year old and brought along slowly and gently. Trail experience, dressage basics, jumps 2'6". Has done leadline and walk/trot lessons with young children. Also goes Western; neck reins, nice smooth lope and jog. Harris is now being shown under saddle. 13.2 Hands. Registered 1/2 Highland.

Please inquire for current price.

Ceol Beag Calavay

Born 2/5/05 Calavay is a lovely dark yellow dun filly
with a small white star. She is a full sibling to Ronay and
Raasay and is very like them in type and personality.
Parents are Ladybug and Quartz of Croila.

This is the last of our foals from the wonderful all-around
mare Ladybug. Her foals have inherited her easy trainability
and are becoming exceptionally versatile ponies like their
mother. Calavay is gentle, smart and very easy to work with.
She is now started under saddle and in harness. Expected to
mature around 13 Hands. Registered 1/2 Highland.

Sold June 2007. Congratulations to Mary Merralls!

Ladybug's page.
Ladybug
Ladybug is one of a kind--the type of pony that so rarely comes up for sale. She is a wonderful all around pony, always a favorite with children and adults alike. Very reluctantly offered for sale or lease to an approved home, as we will be focusing on purebred Highlands in the future. She has produced 3 lovely foals by Quartz of Croila and is an excellent mother. She passes on her wonderful mind and easy trainability to her offspring.

Ladybug is a 12 year old Haflinger/Standardbred cross standing 12.1 Hands tall.We purchased her as an untrained two year old, in the hope that her Haflinger parentage would make her a good farm work prospect. Indeed she proved to be an incredibly quick learner and has always been a pleasure to train. She rides, drives, does farm work, jumps, trail rides, has been used for beginner lessons, yet is forward and lively for more advanced riders. She is happy to give leadline rides to little ones, but is strong enough to carry adult riders and do heavy work in harness.

Sold December 2006.
Congratulations to Raquelle de la Rocha!

Ceol Beag Colonsay, born March 6, 2006.
A purebred Highland colt by Quartz of Croila out of Circle H Highland Mist!
Very friendly and inquisitive, loves to socialize with people. He is very dark
yellow dun or mouse dun, but will go grey like his mother.

Colonsay's dam Mist is a 4 year old, 13.2 Hands, classic Highland type with
a beautiful head. She is also an exceptionally nice mover. She has excellent
bloodlines, going back to the great stallion Strathspey on both sides. Mist is
started under saddle and has been very easy to train. This is Mist's first foal.
Sold August 2006.
Congratulations to Chris Eaves!

Pictured at 2 days old.

Ceol Beag Tiree
Born 4/6/04 a full sister to Harris (above), by Quartz of Croila out of Skye (scroll down to see Skye). Tiree is yellow dun like her siblings Staffa and Harris, with the addition of a white star. Very cute and good natured filly with the unflappable Highland disposition. Tiree is now a 2 year old, well grown and looking very mature. Has had lots of groundwork and 30 days under saddle. Great on trails! She is very smart and enjoys learning. Registered 1/2 Highland. click here for more pictures of Tiree.
Sold April 2006. Congratulations to Jill Byrne and Jan Bolds Training Stable!

Ceol Beag Ronay
Ronay as a 3 year old:

Born 4/4/02, Ronay is by Quartz of Croila out
of our favorite mare Ladybug (Haflinger x Standardbred).
Ronay is a bit more refined than her full brother Raasay
(scroll down the page for pictures of Raasay), but like her
brother she has the unique Highland look.
Registered 1/2 Highland.

This pony is simply adorable--wonderful friendly personality,
smart and easy to train. She knows her leads, canters from a
walk, will halt from a canter on voice  command or seat cue,
understands shoulder-in and sidepass. Started over fences and
loves to jump, also started in harness.
December 2005, Ronay is Sold.
Congratulations to Jennifer Hernandez and family!
click here for more photos: Ronay's page
new photos added 10/10/05.

Ronay update February 2006, new owner Jennifer
writes, "My son has been doing great on Ronay.....
It's so nice to not have to worry about him riding....
My lesson kids have been able to do so much on her
it's great. She is so safe and sound it's a great peace
of mind. They are all hooked on doing around the
world on her and dismounting from the rear. Some
are doing a little bit of vaulting on her, like kneeling
or standing on her back."

Ceol Beag Raasay
The first Highland cross foal born in California!
Raasay as a 2 year old.
Raasay was born on April Fool's Day 2001, a
beautiful dark yellow dun with black points.
Raasay's dam, Ladybug(Haflinger x Standardbred), is our all-time favorite driving pony. Raasay's sire Quartz certainly passed on plenty of bone and substance! Raasay should mature around 13 Hands. He will be large and stout enough to be suitable for an adult rider, but has the calm lovable nature to make a super family or child's pony or a driving pony. A real teddy bear personality. Registered 1/2 Highland.
Raasay is sold.
Congratulations to Greg and Christy Sherr!

Skye

Skye is a Morgan cross pony mare. Bright bay, very pretty mover, going well under saddle. Very smooth gaits, comfortable ride. She is quiet on trails.Started over fences. She has been to one show. She was calm and quiet and placed well in all her classes! Skye has great potential as a performance pony and is also an excellent broodmare.
Skye is Sold.
Congratulations to Brenda Stone!
Skye update:
12 year old Kell Stone enjoys his pony enormously. He is pictured here riding Skye in a 4-H polo clinic.

Ceol Beag Staffa
Skye's filly Staffa was born June 12th, 2001
and she certainly was worth the wait.
We knew Skye and Quartz would be an
excellent cross, but Staffa exceeds all our
expectations!
Staffa has a beautiful head; a wide forehead,
the cutest little fuzzy ears, large soulful eyes,
and a dainty muzzle. She is an absolute doll!
Staffa is yellow dun, with black mane, tail,
and a dorsal stripe.

Click here for more photos: Staffa's page

Staffa is sold. Congratulations to Jeanette Paget
on the purchase of this lovely filly!
Staffa with her new family for Chrtistmas.

Ceol Beag Iona was born May 18, 2001.
Pictured here at 12 days old.
Quartz is certainly passing on the Highland look to his foals!
With lots of presence and striking color Iona will make an eye-catching performance pony.
Now that Iona has finished shedding her foal coat she is a stunning silver grulla just like Quartz.
Click here to see more photos of Iona: Iona's page
Iona is sold. Congratulations to Christi Saunders!

Tyler
He's not a Highland pony--but he sure is cute!  Tyler is an 8 year old grade gelding, 13.1+ Hands. Schooled in basic dressage and jumping, also goes Western. Talented and confident jumper, shown up to 2'9". Tyler placed well at all the shows he attended last season, and was Champion English Horse at the Shoreline Riders June 2004 show. At his only 2005 show, Tyler was 1st in 2'3" jumpers and 2nd in 2'6" jumpers; he was the only pony competing against a strong class of 10 large horses.
Sold Febraury 2006. Congratulations to Randi Farnsworth!
